Summer to Fall Skin Care

Now that Fall has begun, it's time to discuss your skincare. Along with sweater weather comes lower temperatures and less humidity which certainly has an effect on the skin. Here we're going to discuss our top tips when it comes to transitioning your skin care to Fall.

Switch up your Moisturizer

With cooler temperatures and less moisture in the air, you'll want to adjust your daily moisturizer. This means looking for something with a little more weight than the lightweight moisturizers you were using during the Summer. Try a creamier moisturizer packed with ingredients such as ceramides and hyaluronic acid, which will help to protect the skin's moisture barrier and maintain hydration levels throughout the day.

Adding a face oil at night (if you don't already do so) will help to seal in moisture even more. We recommend the Treat Treat Pure Skin Ceramide Oil, which contains a high concentration of ceramides as well as oils rich in fatty acids such as Avocado oil which work to protect the skin's barrier.

Take it Easy on the Acids

While you'll still want to maintain a level of exfoliation in your skincare routine, you may want to consider exfoliating less frequently or using gentler ingredients. Strong exfoliants such as retinol and glycolic acid may exacerbate dry and sensitive skin as the temperatures drop. Try cutting back the use of these types of exfoliants to once a week.

Face Masks

Face masks are a great way to add moisture and hydration to the skin after a long day (or week for that matter!). During the Fall you'll want to pack in the moisture a bit more, and sheet masks are an easy way to do this. Sheet masks, in particular, are effective because after you're finished with the mask, you pat all of the nutrients and ingredients into your skin, making it a truly lasting treatment. If you're looking for a good sheet mask, try the Hada Labo Gokujyun Mask which is packed with hyaluronic acid.

Change your Cleanser

Last but not least, if you have super dry or sensitive skin, then you may want to consider changing your cleanser. You still want your cleanser to do its job at removing gunk at the end of the day, but you also want it to nourish your skin. This Moisture Pack Cleanser by Define beauty contains Rice Bran oil, Jojoba Oil and Ceramides which will nourish and soothe the skin and restore the moisture barrier.
